Bonnie & Clyde

Done before, but we recently came across and acquired a little book called Loblolly, put out by the students of Gary High School in Gary, Texas every quarter. In 1978, they put out an edition devoted to Bonnie and Clyde, which has been reprinted (with permission) by Panola College - we got one of the reprints.

Basically a compilation of interviews by the students with some 30 people who knew or had encountered the pair when they were running around East Texas (where they had kin). It is interesting for what people recalled at a remove of 40 or more years....

Glad to have been of aid. It is an interesting little book. I think some folks may have rememberd some things that didn't happen, though. Not lying, just remembering things that didn't happen, especially where they are recounting things told them long ago. That happens a lot.

Clyde.... You mentioned that it was a little book. Would you mind checking to see if the name Crawford is mentioned in the book?

Family tales have said that my grandfather Crawford and his two brothers occasionally met with Barrow at a location in Ellis County where they would drink and practice their marksmanship with the guns. ...........I'd like to find if there really was a connection between my Crawfords and the Barrows, as a cousin's mom and dad in Palmer TX told me they were.

Fred, I just took a quick look in the Loblolly issue in question and there is no mention of any Crwfords. Which means just that - no mention in this book by the informants the Lobllolly folks (students at a high school in Carthage) interviewed back in 1977-78. So - the connection could be there, just not mentioned by the informants here, who were mostly East Texas folks. And who may or may not have been aware of any Ellis County activities or connections.
