DHS Board - seeing all messages

Postby Sharon Marsalis on Tue Jul 31, 2007 6:38 am

I check the DHS Board daily a couple times. Yesterday I did a scroll seaech back as far as the end of April. Now today I can not access at all--can't get past the page with " Message index--set preferences etc". Is it just me or are y'all in the same shape?

Not just you. Mike. I normally hit the DHS Board after I've checked on Bob Henneman's board on warships and Rob Robles's Antique Guns baords. This morning - nada. Same thing you describe.

No posts showing with preferences set for 2 years. Changed it to 4 years and now current posts are showing again.

Ah so. Time to reset preferences again, I guess.

This may not work for everyone, but it has worked fine for me. A few months ago, I set preferences to 8 years & newest message first. If I want to wait a few minutes for entire index to load, I CAN successfully search the whole board, back to the beginning. However, if I just want to read a recent posting, I can click on it, immediately, and go forward, backward or read a response to message, from there.

Thanks Ernie I am going to try your method. I just posted to PeterK that perhaps I misunderstood his method.

Ernie, that worked!! I was able to access back to October 2005! Not sure if I can go back farther--have to stop re-reading old DHS messages and get going.

Guys,

You can also set it to Oldest Message First, and 8 years, and see messages starting in 2000.

I can do it for mobe single messages and the threaded option. The threaded option loads the index all the way up to January 2006, but you have to wait a while for it (on Fiber Optic/DSL it took about 12 minutes).

Newest first, and 8 years, takes me back to about August 2005, again taking about 12 minutes.

Since these 2 methods overlap each other, it is still possible to see all 69,000 messages in a threaded format (as long as you have patience and a fast connection).

Jerry, FANTASTIC!! Oldest first worked back to 2000. I am now going to try and find all the T.L. Marsalis posts and print them as Jim Barnes did months ago--before they are gone again.
