A while back there was some conversation about Melungeons & the "term" has been referred to a few times here & on DHS board. If anybody is interested, here's a link to a pretty complete blog, from the Melungeon Historical Society, entitled "Melungeon Frequently Asked Questions and Factual Resources".

Very good information there! Thanks for posting the site url, Ernie!

I've saved that to read more and see updates. The info in the FAQs was interesting and had the footnotes. Jack Goins and crew are doing a good job to dispell the myths and provide some facts regarding Melungeons.

I was disappointed that little was said about my Hopkins (paternal gr-grandmother's family). They left North Carolina in 1800s, stopped off in TN and then went to Arkansas. A daughter married my gr-grandfather Ragsdale and they had a passle of kids before moving to Waco TX with all but one of the kids and a younger sister of my gr-grdmthr.

No indication of Melungeon on that Hopkins line that I know of, but the time and location along with the surname being listed as one of the base Melungeon names raised my interest.
