I'm in process of scanning a bunch of old photos, many of Oak Cliff, between the mid teens and 1930s. I set up a flickr site & here are a few. I'll be adding more later.

Thanks for the link to your old photos, Ernie!

I know it's probably been several years since you've been back in the neighborhood of what was your grandfather's house (and later your house) on Windomere. That whole area has undergone tremendous refurbishing of the old houses (at no small expense) and is quite the historic district now.

I look forward to seeing more photos.

On first glance I think the car in the photo with the bathing beauty is a 1919 Ford Tudor Sedan. See what you think.

I think I delivered papers to the house on Windomere in the 1960s, but can't be certain because of my memory issues.

Interesting sidelight about the 1916 Olds.

Adam

I don't know if it means anything, or not, but the Model A in your picture has wire wheels, where car in my pic "appears to" have wood spoke wheels.

The Olds picture you posted was only picture of a 1916 that I could find, so I'm not real sure about my picture.

Did anyone have any idea what the car in front of the Boedeker house was?

It's funny to think that the Boedecker house was moved to Lancaster and totally destoyed and looks like a mess now. It's out on west Main, between the "old"Jr. High and Main's connection back to Belt Line. Half of it's second floor was sheared off in the move and the house was made to look like one of those "southern" style houses you see in all the new floor plan books. I saw old Jr. High because it was built in the late 80's, I went there, and the Jr. High was moved to my old high shool when the new high shool was built. The interesting thing about that house is that a lot of its original interior is left. The house was for sale a couple of years ago, and the people that use to own it are the people that like to go to the school board meetings and complain. If I can ever remember to take my camera, I'll take a couple of pictures.

John

A few years ago, I "met" the then owner of the house on the DHS board. I supplied her with the picture on that archived site. Before that, I don't think she had any idea what the house looked like originally. I believe the house was moved in late '40s or early '50s.

BTW, my grandmother's sister was married to Henry Boedeker, original? owner of house. I put a ? on original because I'm not sure when house was built. Boedekers were there by 1900 & thru 1920 - both died in 1921, I believe, probably in one of the post WW1 flu epidemics.

I forgot the owner's name but she was nice to me. I notice the same pic on your flikr page and on the link I sent out. Knowing me, it'd be awesome to buy it and restore it to look like it did originally.
