I just came across my laugh for the day and a "what were they thinking?" moment.
He lived in the area known as Maggoty Creek on the Stinking River in Pittsylvania County Virginia after the Revolutionary War.

There is a creek whose name we used to laugh at every time we entered San Antonio from the east on I-10 -- "Woman Hollering Creek". It seems it is the English translation of the original Spanish name of La LLorona.
