This past weekend, we made a quick trip to San Antonio and back. Along the way, I saw the Comal Power Plant in New Braufels. Once it was decided to redevelop the shell of the plant rather than tearing it down or sealing it up in 1998-2000; the original plan was to develop it as a hotel:

It was realized in 2004 that the hotel concept would not work; and it was then decided to fill it with 100 loft apartments, with garden apartments on the ground of the plant:

In 2007, the completed project was dedicated and open for new buyers. I did not see lights inside from a distance; but when we stopped to eat, I couldn't find a quick route to check it out.

I guess there is still talk of turning Houston's Gable Street Power Plant into an energy museum. It's first steam engine driven generators were brought online in 1900:
