The Ongoing Saga of 4949 Swiss Avenue

Postby JOHN FINLEY on Sun May 17, 2009 12:08 pm

Since I took Mom (more like myself) on the annual Swiss tour, we parked next to 4949 Swiss. I must say, that the house has several mixed blessings. The first being the front porch. It's been over a month since I've stopped by, so good news. Mary Ellen's daughter has fixed the sagging front porch. The beadboard trim (porch ceiling) has been repaired, replaced, and painted to match the existing (what's not peeling). Of course, the very noticeable sag is gone. The rotted decorative bracket was even replaced with a new one that exactly matched the old one. Of course, the temporary bracing has been removed. However, the same flashing on the "saggy" side and shingles are still in use. However, despite some old material left, the porch has been fixed!

Sadly, despite the windows and doors being boarded up from the inside, vandals/squatters have ripped off and sliced through some of the metal screens coveringthe windows. Also, there is a window into the living room that has no glass!

So, in retrospect, the house is sort of being taken care of. Despite the fact Mary Ellen's daughter lives on the East Coast. Also, one more thing. The house has been relisted a third time, with the same agent, but for $50,000 less. Sadly, they're only acceptiing cash as payment.
Christina, Christopher.... Damn it!!!!!!!
