Ranchman Cafe and Duck Inn

Postby Sharon Marsalis on Sat Jul 04, 2009 9:12 am

I had just mentioned the Ranchman Cafe/Restaurant in tiny Ponder from 40 years ago and had no idea it is still going strong.
Seems even John Wayne ate there.
The pictures though do not do justice to my memories of a movie style old western place with wooden floor and slamming screen door.

I think our out in the country Duck Inn that served fried catfish and famous hush puppies has evolved into Tierney's Duck Inn, Lewisville Downtown???

Sharon, places like that... out of the more urban areas... often have fantastic food! We once were driving toward the Gulf Coast and ran across a place called Bubba's BBQ. I don't remember where it was, other than that it was near the highway. Some of the best Texas BBQ I've ever eaten!

I believe there was (and may still be) a Duck Inn very near the town of Lake Dallas, near a bend in the road between there and Denton.

The Catfish Hut on the Southeast shore of Grapevine Lake was fantastic back in the 1960-70s, and the catfish filets, salad and hush puppies, along with the iced tea, was the best. I wish it was still there, as I'd like to have a good catfish place nearby.
