Praise Reports

Postby survivingworldsteam on Thu Feb 12, 2009 12:37 pm

We had a thread (perhaps it should be a sticky?) for prayer requests, thought I would start one for Praise Reports.

Back in October, I was diagnosed with a rare disease called Wegener’s granulomatosis. It is believed I developed it from being exposed to mold post-Hurricane Rita. I have been suffering with the symptoms since then (I called it my "monster"); but the diagnosis was not made until October.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wegener's_granulomatosis

They started me out on antibiotics for several weeks, which helped decrease the symptoms and improve my quality of life. I did fine for awhile when I stopped taking them; but a few weeks ago, it got bad again and was making it hard for me to breathe.

I replaced the prayer clothe in my wallet that I had given someone, got back on antibiotics, was given a Cortisone shot and an inhaler for the moments I was having trouble breathing. The good news is that I am going on ten days now, with only two days where I felt only slightly bad. (Since it is a form of arthritis; a cold front like the one we had yesterday would make me feel terrible, but not at all this time.) I haven’t had to use the inhaler, and the symptoms are almost gone; leading me to believe my body is finally pushing it into submission.

Thank you Jesus....

James,

Serious stuff.

I don't pray, as such, but you have my deepest sympathy. I hope all goes well, and you have a rapid and successful recovery.

Thanks, Adam.

My wife has been an RN for 20 years, and had never heard of it before. And yes, the following statement in the wikipedia article was a bit unsettling:

Before steroid treatment became available, mortality within one year was over 90%, with average survival being 5 months. Steroids prolonged average survival to 8 months. The introduction of cyclophosphamide (CYC) in the 1970s was a major breakthrough.

The link you sent was great; thank you. It was affecting everything but my hearing; and my wife might say that was affected too. :)

Ten+ days may not sound like much; but the "flare ups" that it would bring on would come at least once a week. To go this long without feeling bad is nothing short of amazing.

I noticed this morning some of the more presistant symptoms are going away. I don't feel any drainage from around one of my back teeth; and I didn't find any blood in my nose this morning.

Sharon :!: :!: ... and anyone else who was able to pray ~ thank you so much :) Everything went beautifully. The doctor -- an optometrist this time -- took lots of time to put Emmy at ease and the whole experience ended up being kinda fun :) No dilation was required as a new machine did the work of peering deeply. And guess what: Emmy is wearing a contact :!: We also were able to order her some neat cool new glasses with a thin lens 8) And I am relieved: while she has very limited sight in her right eye, it is healthy in and of itself.

So, thank you so very much again for caring and for praying. God was a very loving Father to us today and I pray that He will bless you and meet your needs :)

No word yet on my daughter and my grandson; but I did want to tell you all that I had another steroid shot at the end of the last month, and since that time, have been free of the symptoms. My mouth is full of cold sores, and I go to the bathroom a lot at times still, but I also came down with the "stuff" that has been going around last weekend, and those are probably a byproduct of it as much as anything else.

Our grandson was born around 5:30 am, I think <yawn>. Julie says he is nice and pink, which I think means he probably was not deprived of oxygen, and suffering from brain damage as a result. He is about four weeks premature, so he is tiny, and on oxygen now; but he and momma are doing fine.

I am not sure I am ready to be called a grandpa. :D Thank you all very much for your prayers.

James, am praying for you and Congratulations, too, on the arrival of your precious grandson :!: Will also pray for mom and babe.

Ronnie, that is one of the sweetest photos I have ever seen :) Can't you just feel your blood pressure drop, ya'll, when you look at it? An adorable grandson you have there, and it looks like someone collects matchbooks :)

That's a hobby I don't get out enough to pursue, but my mom has a really neat collection of matchbooks from the 1950s :)

Also ... my daughter has been wearing her contact for the last few days. Today, she got to wear her neat new glasses to school for the first time :!: She was so proud, happy and excited (and looking lovely and very sophisticated, too, I might add).

Thank you for your prayers :!: :)

My grandson weighed 4 pounds 1 oz at birth, and was 18 1/4 inches long. He is six and half weeks early, but he is breathing on his own; they had him on oxygen, but have removed that as well, so now he is breathing completely on his own.

My daughter is running a fever (100 degrees); I guess not unsual after a C-section. But she is otherwise doing all right; thank you all again for your comments and prayers.

"Grandpa" :D
