The first Jimmy's Kitchen in Hong Kong, was opened in 1928 by a man called Aaron Landau who had worked with Jimmy in Shanghai. It was called Jimmy's Kitchen from day one. The original opened on the waterfront in Wan Chai, which was a dock area for both naval and commercial ships, and catered to visiting seamen. It was a wooden table and bar lightbulb sort of place that was originaly off limits to women.
It moved into Theatre Lane in central before the second world war, during which it was taken over by the occupying Japanese officers as a mess and the owners as well as some of the staff interned in the Stanley prison.Jimmy's kitchen remains in central to this day having moved into its current location in the seventies.
All records prior to the war period have been lost but I do know that when Jimmy's first opened it followed the menu from Shanghai very closely. Now however, they are completely different.
My previous posting was just an inquiry out of personal interest, not in anyway professional.
