I know we were just talking about him a day or so ago in the music trivia game.

Texas troubadour, Rusty Wier, best known for his hit song "Don't It Make You Wanna Dance" passed away on October 9. Friends and fans across the country remember his expansive career that included a Double Platinum Record and tours with Ray Charles, Charlie Daniels, Lynrd Skynrd, the Allman Brothers, Doug Kershaw, and Willie Nelson.

Rusty signed his first contract with ABC Records and later recorded with both 20th Century and Columbia Records, producing more than a dozen albums during the course of his career. He also appeared at Austin City Limits on three different occasions, delivering his unique brand of what Margaret Moser labeled “Rusticana.”

Memorial services are yet to be announced.

Rusty Wier was a special person even beyond his music. He was funny, he was gentle, and he was friendlier than just about anyone I've known. We shared a lot of laughs both sober and other wise.
The last time I saw Rusty he was giving me a hard time because he noticed that my camera was held together with rubber bands. Somehow he found a roll of duct tape and said it time I went "high tech".
Rusty Wier will be missed by all of us that knew him.

Here he is with my granddaughter. It shows his playful nature better than any words.

Hated to read that. He and Willis Alan Ramsey were/are two of my favorites. Short story. When I lived in Arizona, frequented a saloon owned by an ex Air Force para-rescue type. I believe his name was Jason Stone. He also was lead guitar/singer for a small band in the bar. This guy did Rusty, Willis, and Waylon better than they did themselves. Simply amazing. I first heard him one day as I was passing by the Crystal Palace Saloon in Tombstone. Drooped in for an hour or so and asked him about his covering their music. He told me the Texas "sound" was some of his favorite music. This was in the 77-78 time frame. I was a little surprised folks outside Texas were familiar with Rusty and Willis. When I returned to the area a couple of years later, He had his own saloon (Sorry Gulch Saloon) located in Sierra Vista. I never tired of going there. Hope everyone here is doing well.
