Sonny Bryan's Reaches Franchising Deal With Beautiful Brands

Fifty-one years after William Jennings “Sonny” Bryan Jr., launched his eponymous barbecue house in Dallas, the company is going to push future growth through franchising.

Tulsa-based Beautiful Brands International said Monday it has agreed to handle franchise sales, marketing, real estate, architecture and other services for the popular chain.

Earlier this year Beautiful Brands announced a similar deal with the Dallas-based Greenz salad chain.

“Now that we’ve perfected the business model for Sonny Bryan’s over the last 51 years, we’re more than ready to take our food all across the world,” Brent Harman, president and chief executive of Sonny Bryan’s said in a statement.

The chain has nine locations and 250 employees in the Dallas Fort-Worth area.

Somehow - I doubt it will be the same.

I agree with Clyde. Look what happened to Chili's and The Blackeyed Pea after they franchised.

Clyde and Ronnie expressed doubt that the Sonny Bryan brand can be the same at multiple locations after franchising.

I agree. I don't believe any two cookers, grills, smokers will draw the same or yield the same result even if built to the same specification. The micro climates will be different and they won't draw the same. The same pit master could probably come close over time at multiple facilities but you won't have that.

Sonny Bryan is not the only Dallas place that is franchising. There is already at least one Dickey's BBQ in the Atlanta area and one is about to open close to me. Ironically I'll have to drive past one local Texas style BBQ place to get there. Historically there have been more Texas style places in the NW Atlanta suburbs and nearby than in other parts of town because the Lockheed plant in Marietta attracted a lot of workers from Texas.

For me: the only Sonny Bryan's that tastes good is the original one on Inwood. I've eaten at some of the others and they were OK but not the same.
