Maybe he would not wish to be posted here, but since he started out here, why not? He must have carried many deep and complex feelings concerning his early years in our state.

My own platform for beginning to perceive this fascinating gent (and shared elsewhere ... sorry :!:) ~

The enigmatic Alfalfa, whose first phases were lived south of the Red River: grief in Grayson County, turmoil in Montague, nurturing in Wise, wisening in Parker, frustration in Tarrant and elsewhere ~ with ample room to stand, finally, when wedded in and to the dismantled Indian nations

Maybe his surface-story and experiences are common ones from the beginnings of our nation, as it came to be settled, on down through the Closing of the Frontier: the idea that success could be found eventually -- no matter what a person's vocation might be -- if an individual kept moving long enough to find the right fit with a place. Still, achievement of goals was no guarantee of peace or happiness, and success often was accompanied by a multitude of failures ... large and small.

History as the new religion? I can live with that.
