Guys,

All of the old board is there, with the content back to 2000. You will have to create a new Registration, but should be happy that we did not lose all that History!!

As always, to make it easy for everyone, you can go to www.DHSMembers.org and there are links there to This site, the DHS Message Board, and any other Dallas History site I know about. (Except Debby's, who never gave me permission to link.

Of course, the DHS site is more about Dallas and Texas History, so we will continue this site as well, so we have another place for fun, games, chit-chat, and other subjects.

The new board does not function like the old one, so it is not truly "back", but at least all of the old content is saved.

Rather sweet and relaxed moniker, too ~ Phorum. Maybe some of the tenseness of the old board will flow away ... though the threaded format is no more (preferred by some).

History doesn't have to be approached in an uptight fashion. A few shots in the dark can lend a multi-dimensional picture ... in the end. Is there ever an end? Vertical time, horizontal time, circular time, DHS time ... hmmm ....

Nice - Especially after tweaking my settings for the threaded format!

And all the way back to 2000! OH WOW! And an RSS feed too! How cool is that!

YAY!

Yes, click on Control Center on the top, and then Forum Settings on the lower left, and you can change your profile to allow Threaded.

Not yet sure how the sort will work, however. Will we see the "newest" response on top? Or simply the newest Topic?

I set mine to All messages in a topic, threaded.

And

Multiple messages per page, threaded.

Now that the old board is renewed and running again, is it best to place questions related to Dallas history there?

Thanks.

Good question.

There were a number of people who never came to this forum, and tried to continue on the old one. That is, until 3 weeks ago when that Message Board went away completely.

As you know, I eMailed the 70 of us that are on this Forum, to let them know the old board was up (at a different format/site). But those not on this board would not really know the Archive board is back up, much less where to look for it.

The DHS main page DOES point to the new board, IF someone tries to click on it.

It might be best to post on both boards for a while. Just highlight the text on one board, and do a CTRL-C (copy) and then go to the other board and you can do a CTRL-V (paste).

The number of responses to the question might help determine, but I think for a while that other board may be rather slow in activity until everyone finds out about it, and gets used to it.

On the other hand, there is a greater treasure of information on Dallas History on that board (back to 2000).

My suggestion is don't reply to an old thread no matter how much you would like to
Start a new thread

still can't get in. I can see the messages but can't reply

its all Ronnie's fault

well finally got in. it wasn't Ronnie's fault at all the confirming email kept getting stuck in my gmail spam folder :-(

anyway
been looking through the DHS board, and I must say I much prefer this location primarily because of the various subfora that are set up here and some of the other tidbits

I'll most probably stay over here. I'll occasionally visit the DHS board if only to look for past messages :D

I agree with Peter . . . this is a much better forum, easy to use and navigate, better options, etc. :D The DHS board has all the history, so it's nice to visit for research and to check periodically for interesting posts. IMO for what it's worth

Something to consider (I think): when people post together regularly, they begin to form a community. It is a natural progression for the group to venture 'off-topic' ... unless the subject is highly structured or set ~ as in genealogy forums.

Yet, some participants do prefer a sharp focus; to color within the lines. The casual wink or nudge here and there is enough virtual socializing for them 8)

So, it seems like everyone should be pleased at this point :) Right :?: We can go here, there and everywhere

PS. Lefty is still waiting for his answer at the moment (but it was very kind of Ralph to take an interest in the origins of the Bent-Tree area and to share his knowledge).

Looks like the "old board" is dead, again. I get a "The page cannot be displayed" message, this morning.

It's still dead this morning. Maybe their "tech support" just doesn't work on weekends.

I talked to Tony Hazlet (SIC?) this morning and he said it was a problem with the server and and the Phorum should be back on in the next two days.
